Size Matters in Singapore! Don’t you think? Don’t shrink it, make them bigger!
By Romesh Navaratnarajah:The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will not shrink flat sizes, assured National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
In a bid to clarify the issue, Mr Khaw said that Singapore will not emulate other cities like Tokyo and Hong Kong which have reduced the sizes of their flats.
As the government steadfastly wants “to maintain a good quality of life”, it does not have plans to shrink HDB flats. He reckons that any change made to the sizes of flats will depend on family sizes.
Mr Khaw was reacting to an issue that emerged after an audience member at the recent REACH forum asked the Minister about flat sizes, which led to much debate online.
“My comment at that dialogue was in response to a question. I was purely stating that HDB plans (flat sizes) based on certain design norms, and as far as I know, it has not changed for the past 15 years,” he said, reiterating that HDB’s design criteria remains unchanged since 1997.Src: Yahoo
